NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM - LIPSON STREET, PORT ADELAIDE

Take a journey into railway history at the National Railway Museum, Australia's largest railway museum with over 100 exhibits representing State, Commonwealth and private railway operators on the three major rail gauges used in Australia.

SEMAPHORE AND FORT GLANVILLE TOURIST RAILWAY - FORESHORE, SEMAPHORE

The National Railway Museum also operates a magical 2km steam train ride along the dunes from Semaphore Jetty to Port Malcolm and return.

The railway operates as follows:

Daily during school holidays in September and April

Daily from 26 December to the end of January school holidays

Every Sunday and Public Holiday from October to April inclusive

 

PLATFORM 1 HERITAGE FARM RAILWAY - LITTLEHAMPTON

Take the train ride through the historic farmyard and out into the open paddocks. Hear the history of this beautiful property from 6th generation owner, Glenn Liebelt. 

Make the signal work, be a fireman or a train driver on the hands-on railway displays. Play the outdoor old-fashioned games; horse-shoe throwing, balls in the milk cans and a giant board game of "Trains & Tunnels".

Pat and feed the friendly farm animals. Meet Ruby the pig, watch the sheep who loves to follow you around on the train and Miss Moo will love a scratch. CLOSING END OF OCTOBER 2017

 

SASMEE PUBLIC RUNNING DAYS - RIDE ON STEAM TRAINS (Millswood)

SASMEE (South Australian Society of Model and Experimental Engineers) Park runs a variety of ride-on model steam trains. It is located at Millswood, and is open to the public on the first Sunday and third Saturday of each month. 

Upcoming dates: Sunday 1 October, Saturday 21 October, Sunday 5 November, Saturday 18 November, Sunday 3 December

 

MORPHETT VALE RAILWAY INC PUBLIC RUNNING DAYS - RIDE ON STEAM AND DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES (Morphett Vale)

Public Running Day every 2nd and 4th Sunday at Morphett Vale Railway Inc. with rides on Steam and Diesel locomotives through Wilfred Taylor Reserve, Morphett Vale. The railway has approximately 2km of track and an average ride takes around 15 minutes through the natural bush-land Wilfred Taylor Reserve, at Wheatsheaf Road Morphett Vale.

PENFIELD PARK RAILWAY OPEN DAYS (Edinburgh)

The ride on miniature railway has a total track length of about 1.9Kms supporting both 7 ¼” and 5” gauge trains. After leaving the station the railway runs thru the outer edge of the park, crosses over itself via a gentle gradient and a steel bridge before passing thru a tunnel on its way back to the station.

ADELAIDE MINIATURE STEAM RAILWAY OPEN DAYS (Prospect)

The Adelaide Miniature Steam Railway Society (Railway Park) offers a facility where families can come together and enjoy an afternoon in pleasant surroundings. Take a trip back in time and experience the world when steam engines were the only way to travel. See miniature buildings and artifacts that add a touch of realism to the railway.

ROSEWORTHY RAILWAY CLUB OPEN DAYS (Roseworthy)

A Model Engineering club at Roseworthy with 1.2 km of 7-1/4" gauge track. Regular public opening times on some Sundays and some Saturday evenings.

CLARE VALLEY MODEL ENGINEERS INC PUBLIC RUNNING DAYS (Clare)

Model train rides at Clare - 7 1/4" Gauge. The club has a kilometre of track with 3 bridges and a tunnel and another section and bridge under construction. We are situated in Melrose Park which is about 10 hectares in size and contains a 2 hectare lake.

STEAMRANGER HERITAGE RAILWAY

Operators of the Cockle Train, Southern Encounter, Highlander, StrathLink, Twilighter, Southern Hills Special and Bugle Ranger. Heritage train services between Mt. Barker, Strathalbyn, Goolwa & Victor Harbor. The SteamRanger Heritage Railway operates a number of different heritage steam and diesel hauled tourist trains between Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, up over the crest of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, down to Strathalbyn and on through the coastal holiday towns of Goolwa and Port Elliot to the tourist resort town of Victor Harbor.

 

PICHI RICHI RAILWAY

Pichi Richi Railway is a heritage railway, delighting families with scenic trips through the timeless Flinders Ranges since 1974. Heritage trains run past breathtaking Flinders Ranges scenery, on the last operating section of the original "Old Ghan route". Open weekends from March - November each year, with extra weekday trains during School Holidays. 

 

CROYDON PLAYGROUND (TRAIN PARK)

I'm sure ours isn't the only family that has fondly renamed Croydon Playground, "the train park". Sitting right next to the Croydon Train Station, it's perfect for the kids who want to hop on the train to get there.

 

TRAIN JOURNEY TO ADELAIDE RAILWAY STATION

Which kid doesn't like to jump on a train and just go for a ride for the sheer fun of it? Why not head to the Adelaide Railway Station, have a look around and jump back on the next train home.

 

ADELAIDE MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION

The annual Adelaide Model Railway Exhibition takes place on the Queen's Birthday long weekend, where some of Adelaide's Top Model Railway Clubs combine to present the Adelaide Model Railway Show.

A display of model trains of many scales and gauges with entertainment for families, train enthusiasts and model enthusiasts alike. Over 40 layouts, modelling demonstrations and trade stands.

Fantastic family day out and great value entertainment for this long weekend.
